Days of Creation Drama

The order of creation puppet show

Days of Creation : (optional pre-drama lesson)
Items needed:
Ziploc bag of dirt
Blown up balloon
Flashlight
An apple
Bible marked at Exodus 20:10-11

Lesson:
1. On day one God created light. This was not the sun. This was the creation of energy.

A. Show them the flashlight.
          B. Explain: Energy is heat and light. There is a very well known law of science called the Law of Conservation of Matter and Energy. This law tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It must have a source. God is the source of all energy.
         C. Show them the bag of dirt.
         D. Explain: Evolutionists must either believe in eternal dirt (matter) or self-creating dirt (matter). We believe in an eternal, Creator God. Both beliefs are positions of faith. Which faith do you think is most reasonable?

2. On day two, God made our atmosphere. The King James Version of the Bible calls this the firmament which means expanse. This most likely refers to space. On day two, God separated the waters that were above, our atmosphere, from the waters that were below on earth.
         A. Hold up the balloon to represent air.
         B. Explain: Evolutionists do not have a reasonable explaination for where space came from. God created time, space and matter.

3. On day three, the Bible says God gathered the water in one place and made the dry land appear. He then caused the land to produce all sorts of vegetation. This all happened on the third day of creation.
        A. Hold up the apple.
        B. Ask: Which came first, the apple or the seed?
        C. Answer: God made fully mature plants with fruit bearing seed already on them on the third day of creation. God made plants that could create more of themselves, or as the Bible says, that could reproduce "after their kind". They would never produce anything new.
        D. Ask: How long does it take an apple tree to grow from a seed to a fruit-producing tree? Two years? Three years? How long did it take God? A few seconds? We don't know for sure, but we know it took Him no longer than 24 hours.

4. On day four, God made the sun, moon and stars. Everything God created has a purpose.
       A. Read: Genesis 1:14
       B. Ask:
           1. According to the Bible, what is the purpose of the sun? (To separate day from night and to give light to earth.)
           2. What is the purpose of the moon? (To mark seasons and to govern the night.)
           3. According to the Bible, what is the purpose of the stars? (To mark the seasons.)

5) On day five, God made the birds of the air and the fish in the sea. This includes whales. This also includes all marine dinosaurs.

6) On day six, God made all land animals. This includes all land dinosaurs, like the T-Rex and the Brontosaurus. He also made man on day six, which means man and dinosaur lived at the same time. Adam could have had a dinosaur for a pet! Even though man and dinosaur were created on the same day, man was special. In fact, man was set apart from all of God's creation. Man was given the job to rule over the rest of God's creation. We were the only creatures created in the image of God.
      A. Explain: Evolutionists tell us that no man has ever seen a dinosaur, yet cave drawings have been found around the world with pictures of dinosaurs in them. The men and women who made these drawings lived way before the first dinosaur bone was ever found. So, if they did not see a dinosaur, how would they have known how to draw one?

7. On day seven, God rested from all His work. Then, in Exodus, He told us that we should spend one day a week resting as well.
      A. Read: Exodus 20:10-11. If each day of creation were actually a million of
years, then we would need to work for six million years and rest for 1 million. Would you like that? Aren't you glad God made the world in six twenty-four hour days?

Teachers Tip: Once they have completed their creation props, you will want them to take time to practice acting out the days of creation. You can either read the days of creation out loud while they act it out, or you can have read the fact cards glued to the back of their puppets one at a time and in the proper order.

Directions: The students will be making different Creation "puppets" using cardstock, markers, yarn and other items. You will assign each child a different prop to make. Hopefully you have at least six children. If not, you will need to make the props for the additional days yourself or assign more than one to each child. If you have more students then patterns, assign various puppets to more than one child. You may also want to assign additional activities or props to those students who finish early. Day one, Day two and the land will be finished quickly whereas some of the animal cards will take more time.

1. For day 1: Have your students cut out a circle from orange card stock using the pattern provided above and glue the yellow and orange tissue squares on the circle. They may also want to trace each square with glitter glue. They can glue the tissue however they want. Have them tape the craft stick to the back along with the day one fact card.

2. For day 2: The children will cut out two circles from the blue cardstock using the pattern provided. Then, have them tape or glue three-inch strips of crepe paper between the two circles so that they hang along the circles edge like fringes. They may also decorate their "puppets" with glitter glue. (This activity will not take as long as some of the others, so you may want to have an additional activity ready for them. Perhaps they can work together to make an additional fish prop.) Have them tape the craft stick to the back of their "puppet" along with the day two fact card.

3. For day 3:
      A. Land and sea: Cut the water shape and land shape using the patterns provided. Use two pieces of blue card stock for the water and brown cardstock for the land. Use the glitter glue to draw waves in the water. Glue the land onto one of the water cut-outs and then glue the other water cut-out over the land so that the top of the land is sticking out of the water. Make sure the craft stick is glued in between the two blue cardstock sheets. They are welcome to draw various plants on the land if they wish. Have them tape the day three fact card on the back of their prop.

     B. Plants: Cut out a basic tree trunk from brown cardstock. Use the circle pattern provided for the top of the tree and then use the green paint and the sponges to paint the leaves on this circle. Cut small circles out of the red cardstock. Attach the self adhesive Velcro to the red circles. The children may decide where they would like to place their apples to on the tree. They need to place the other sides of the Velcro in those places on the sponge painted circle. Have them tape a craft stick to the back of their "puppet" along with the day three fact card.

4. Day 4: Sun, moon and stars: Each one will be made separately. The children will cut out a circle shape, crescent shape and star shape patterns from orange cardstock. They will cover the cardstock with yellow and orange tissue squares. They will trace around each tissue square with glitter glue. They will tape the craft stick and Day four card on the back of the prop.

5. Day 5: Birds and sea creatures:
     A. Birds: Have the students cut out the bird's body and wing out of blue cardstock using the pattern provided. They will use orange cardstock for the beak. Have them glue the beak to the face of the bird and the wing in the middle of its side. Give them each a googly eye and have them glue it on where the eyes should be. Have them glue the wings in the center of the body. Hand them the blue construction paper and instruct them to cut out teardrop shaped feathers then have them glue those on where they choose. Last, have them tape the craft stick to the back of their "puppet" along with the day five fact card. You may also have them glue on craft feathers if you would like.

    B. Fish: Have them cut out the fish shape from the pattern provided using blue, white or grey construction paper, then have them glue on the circles of wrapping paper for fins. Give them one googly eye to glue on where they choose and have them draw in the gills. Have them tape the craft stick to the back along with day five fact card.

    C. Octupi: Follow the same procedure as for the fish using the pattern provided.

6. Day 6: Animals and man
    A. Dinosaurs: Have the children cut the dinosaur shape out of blue or grey cardstock and cover it with circles cut from shiny blue wrapping paper. These represent the dinosaur's scaly skin. Then give them each a googly eye and have them glue it on. Have them tape the craft stick and day 6 fact card on the back of their puppet.

    B. Man: Have them cut white cardstock in a circle using the pattern provided and draw and color a face on it using markers. Then have them cut yellow, brown or red yarn into three-inch strips for short hair and six to ten-inch strips for long hair. Have them glue this to the top of their "puppet". Have them tape their craft stick and day six fact card to the back of their puppet.

7. Day 7: God rested.
    A. When you get to this day you will have all the children lay their puppets down.
